Acer, meanwhile, wants a 50% share

More from the DigiTimes and they have run a story that Acer, despite the global economy showing signs of being on the down, expects to grab a 50% share of the netbook market next year.

This year, Acer expects total PC shipments to surpass 30 million units, but next year company chairman JT Wang believes that can rise to 36-39 million units, with notebook shipments likely to increase by 25-35% as part of that prediction.

Company president Gianfranco Lanci chimed in with specifics about Acer’s outlook on netbooks, with the 50% share they expect to grab equaling about 12-15 million units.

Acer saw an on-year revenue increase of 31% in the first three quarters of 2008, a total of US$12.8 billion, with net profits after tax of US$278 million. Obviously with their bold predictions for 2009, they are aiming even higher.
