Laptop Magazine has some details about Gateway’s planned 8.9-inch netbook, uninspiringly named the LT1001G. The basic version is that this is a repackaged Acer Aspire One with a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and a few minor changes such as the palm rest. Considering Gateway is actually a subsidary of Acer, this isn’t too surprising.
The netbook will soon hit some markets in Asia, but don’t expect to see it in the U.S. any time soon. Given its similarities to the Aspire One, Gateway’s Taipei team believes there is no justification for introducing it Stateside. Given the Aspire One’s excellent sales, as documented yesterday when it was revealed that Acer holds the biggest share in netbook sales, the idea is that it could move many units in Asia.
