Everyone is getting in on the netbook frenzy, so why not EMTEC? The company has announced a new netbook that has been expected for a while, called the Gdium Liberty Netbook and has posted a press release with all the info.
The most unique feature of the Gdium Liberty is that it, shock horror, doesn’t use an Atom processor! Instead it opts for the 900MHz 64bit ST Microelectronics CPU and runs a modified version of Mandriva Linux designed specially for the 64-bit processor. Along with that oddity comes a 10-inch LCD panel, 512MB of RAM, and a removable 8 or 16GB Flash G-Key.
EMTEC is confident that it can make a splash in the industry because of a sub-$400 price tag, but with so many companies now boasting the same low cost pitch, this may be another of the endless netbooks lost in the shuffle.
