Cherrypal launches “green” netbook, the Bing

Cherrypal are the latest name to stake their claim for a spot in the netbook market by announcing a new release called the Bing. Although the specs are the norm for a new release, the company is trying to set itself apart from the other horde of late comers with its own GreenMaraschino Linux operating system that comes preloaded with Firefox, OpenOffice, VoiP (Skype) and instant messaging software (Yahoo, AOL, Google, MSN).

Cherrypal’s website also boasts that more applications will be available, free. A Windows XP version will also be on offer. Other than that, the selling point is the bold claim from the company that the Bing is fastest and most affordable netbook running the Intel Atom N270 on the market, and uses less power than any other.

Along with the 1.6GHz processor just mentioned, the Cherrypal Bing sports 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard disk, 3 USB 2.0 ports, Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g), and a 1.3-megapixel camera.

Cherrypal seem serious about making a splash with the Bing and have a cool offer on right now at Amazon.com. If you buy their C114 desktop/”nettop” (those netbook-like desktop machines) and the Bing together, you’ll pay only $399, which considering the usual $250 price tag on the nettop, means the netbook is only being priced at $149 as a standalone. The C114 comes with Freescale’s 400 MHz MPC5121e mobileGT processor, 256 MB of DDR2 DRAM, and an 8GB NAND Flash-based SSD.

The company also have an enticing teaser on their website that reads: “Coming soon is yet another laptop/netbook, based on a different processor architecture that will provide even more power savings.”
