Asus to downsize netbook lineup to 4 models

Is the Asus netbook range about to be downsized? DigiTimes has a report that suggests a consolidation of Asustek’s Eee PC netbook line is forthcoming.

Asus president Jerry Shen said a series of business reorganization plans are scheduled to be announced soon, which will include the merging of resources including digital family and desktop PCs. Essentially, Asus is feeling the effects of the global economic crisis and is trying to sort it out.

The company is currently overstocked on LCD monitors, motherboards, and graphics cards, but they expect that to be solved by the end of March. As for the Eee PC lineup, they plan to downsize it to four models, which means a bunch of Asus netbooks — possibly older ones that are being phased out anyway — will be axed from production lines shortly.
