Dell Inspiron Mini 9 for $199 – today only!

Here’s an awesome deal that is only good until Tuesday. After dropping the base price of the Inspiron Mini 9 to $249 last week, Dell is now offering it for just $199 as a special President’s Day deal. That basically means you have to order it today to pounce on the offer.

This version of the 8.9-inch Mini 9 has the usual 1.6GHz Atom CPU along with a 4GB SSD, 512MB of RAM, and Ubuntu 8.04.1 Linux as the operating system. More RAM, more storage space, and Microsoft Windows will cost you extra.

Buffalo announce new SSDs for Dell Inspiron Mini 9

Slashgear via Akihabara News in Japan has word of a new SSD duo (16GB and 32GB) from Buffalo that can help you beef up your Dell Inspiron Mini 9’s performance. They don’t offer a huge amount of space, with 4GB and 8GB storage options available, but they will let you store some of your files or even install an alternate OS on them.

Buffalo recently revealed similar releases for the ASUS Eee PC, but with 32GB and 64GB options, while Dell have their own 32GB SSD option for the Inspiron Mini 9 that can be added to a new order for $100. In comparison, Buffalo’s new standalone releases will cost $57 for the 16GB SSD or $101 for the 32GB SSD, basically pricing it the same as Dell’s new order upgrade option.

The Japanese are known for their love and promotion of anything cutesy, so it should come as no surprise that they are promoting two very eye-catching new color variations for the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. Engadget via the Japanese source Impress has pictures of these cuties, which are expected to to hit the United States soon.
