MSI to release a Valentine Edition Wind

MSI is ready to pounce on romantics by releasing the Wind U100 in a pink Valentine’s Day edition in time for the special day. The Valentine Edition will be on sale at $429, but they are giving away 15 of them for free — if you’re willing to upload a photo of yourself and your significant other. 15 photos will be chosen at random and this limited edition netbook shipped to the lucky winners. The first 100 participants will also get a “My Valentine” 2GB USB Flash Drive.

The Valentine Edition MSI Wind U100 will be just like the regular ones, besides the cutesy design. A 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Windows XP Home, and a 6-cell battery. MSI is also offering free shipping on all Valentine Edition Winds.

MSI Japan releases “Angel White” U100 design

MSI’s Japanese branch has released the “Angel White” design for the popular MSI Wind U100 netbook in Japan, according to Akihabara News. The “Angel White” is, well, very white and certainly not something you’ll want to put grubby hands on. It has been available outside of Japan in some markets for a while, but is only now being released over there.

The specs are the same as the usual Wind U100 model: 10.2-inch LCD screen, 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. The cost for this pale machine in Japan will be Â¥56,800 or around US$615.

The guys at Team Australia have managed to do something quite amazing. They got hold of an MSI Wind U100 and putting the official MSI bios overclocking tool to use, along with plenty of liquid nitrogen, managed to overclock the 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU to an jaw-dropping 2.385GHz. Sure, its doubtful that we’ll be seeing a 2.3GHz netbook on the market any time soon, but these guys have shown just how what you can do with nerves of steel and the know-how.

MSI Wind U100 just $350 at Best Buy

Price drops in netbooks seem to be a common trend of late, and Lilputing has news of another big price drop. Best Buy is now selling the MSI Wind U100 for just US$349.99.

The model number is U100-420US and includes the following:

- Intel Atom processor N270
- 1GB DDR2 memory
- 10.1″ WSVGA widescreen display with 1024 x 600 resolution
- 120GB SATA hard drive (5400 rpm)
- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 graphics
- Built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

The drawbacks are the lack of Bluetooth compatibility and it only having 10/100 Gigabit Ethernet LAN support, but its a good deal if those arenâ€™t essential features for you.
