With Packard Bell being a subsidary of Acer, the “dot” was a rebranded Acer Aspire 10.

Sadly (or not) the “dot” never hit shelves in January as intended and SlashGear now reports that Packard Bell has axed it completely. A Packard Bell spokesperson said that the “dot” will be replaced by a new model, possibly based on one of Acer’s newer machines.

The “dot”, had it been released, would have sported an 8.9-inch 1024×600 display, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and the options of a 6-cell battery and internal 3G modem. The intended price was £299 (US$414) but of course it wasn’t to be.

Otherwise, everything is fairly standard and normal with a typical Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive.

Enticing options are a 6-cell battery for longer runs and an internal 3G modem. No word on pricing or international availability on the XP-charged model yet, but it should retail at around £315 (US$475).
